Hi guys I need your advice, but don't waste your time on giving bad comments because I am not even going to read them.

Anyways this Sunday my boyfriend, his brother, his brothers wife and daughter, plus me and my 1 month old are suppose to be going to Animal Kingdom Disney world. I was wondering if taking a 1 month old would be a good idea? I have no one to leave him with and the reason were going is because it's my boyfriends (babies father) birthday. I know with a newborn their are the concerns of dehydration, sunburn, and heat stroke. I would like to know the opinion of people who took their newborns to disney in May. Also I checked the weather and it says it will be 87 in the afternoon and 71 at night.

My question basically is what you think? If I do take him how do I prepare? and how to keep him happy.

P.S I will be calling my pediatrician today to ask her opinion and then make my decision.

The pediatrician will be able to give you the best advice. In my opinion as a mom & retired nurse, I would not take a newborn to WDW...especially Animal Kingdom. That park is very exposed to the sun, the walking is rough & there aren't many stores to duck into to cool off. You could prevent dehydration with fluids. You could prevent sunburn & heat stroke by not exposing your baby to the heat & cooling him down with a cool damp washcloth & using a fan. My biggest concern would be the germs from all people visiting park. It is especially dangerous there, because you're not only dealing with people from the U.S., but from all over the world. If your baby were to get sick from someone from another country, it could take longer to diagnose & could be fatal. I would rethink this idea.

No way would I take a tiny infant to a theme park. It will be no fun for him and certainly no fun for you. Nor would I leave a child that young with anyone else while I went off to a theme park - I'd be worried the entire time!

Now that you're a parent, you need to do what's best for your child, which may at times conflict with what YOU want to do. That's part of being a parent - sacrificing what you want for the good of your child. This won't be the last time....

Hopefully, your pediatrician will give you good advice and you will take heed.

I going kind of a the opposite route of what people say. You are obviously a very responsible and concerned mother. This tells me that it will be fine to take your newborn with you.

Working at the parks I have actually seen countless newborns come to the parks with parents. Your child is going to sleep a lot anyways so as long as you have a stroller you will be fine.

As long as you are aware of your limitations with the newborn in tow then I do not see a problem.

Each park has a baby station that is has a nurse from Florida Hospital on staff at the desk. They offer you a quiet air conditioned room if you want to rest with your baby and feed them. They also sell anything and everything you can think, such as formula, diapers, wet wipes, in case you run out or forget something.

I would not take a 1 month old to a theme park. A baby that age is just too delicate. Really, until they can sit up on their own and hold their heads up, they ahould not be taken there. Also, there are people with their germs and diseases from all over the world there. Your baby has not had a chance to develope immunity to anything yet and a sick one month old child can be the kind of life threatening experience you do not want. From experience, you do not want to spend nights in the hospital with your sick baby. It is a life changing event that you do not want.

I was very happy to see that you are going to call your pediatrician...that is the best thing to do. I would advise against taking a baby to Disney World. It expose the baby to too many chances to get sick and YOU may find it totally exhausting for you too. You will be doing all that walking, and not be able to go on the rides because you will be waiting with the baby. You may want to enter this question under the section for questions on Pregnancy and Parenting , too.

My Mom took me when I was about 10 months old... but no way would I take a 1 month OR a newborn.

Sorry. I don't think the pediatrician is going to go for it.

I wouldn't take the kids.

I would not take a newborn to the shopping mall, let alone a huge theme park. There are just too many things and people to expose a newborn to.

Talking to your doctor is the best thing to do. Dehydration and heat stroke can happen fast and can be very dangerous.

not that you have any control over this but your sis in law should not be taking a TWO DAY OLD baby ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

babies are not really supposed to go anywhere until they are at least 2 WEEKS old.

as for your baby i personally would not recommend going to animal kingdom with your baby on that hot of a day when its SUPPOSED to be nice and sunny on sunday cuz there is not much in the way of shade in animal kingdom and there's a lot of walking from attraction to attraction in the sun.

plus its not the greatest park for a baby cuz there's not much to do to start with and really not much for a baby to do. at least at say magic kingdom the baby could go on all but about 4 things.

sounds like you are going to do what you want no matter what anyways so idk why you asked the question.

just make sure you bring a stroller with a hood on it, dress the baby is light materials that cover as much as his body as you can, bring a wash cloth and a water bottle so you can cool him off if he needs it, and bring enough formula to last the whole day, and keep him in the shade as much as possible.
