Although I'm not quite sure if Oneida's approximation is true for most families, I will say he's right on the money when it comes to our family. He says $1,000.00 per person; there are three in our family so when you factor in airfare, seven nights at a Moderate Disney resort, food, theme park tickets, etc we do spend $3,000.00. Granted we always go when Disney offers some form of discount such as free dining or 30% off the room rate.



If you also go when they offer a discount, stay at a Value resort, not stay as long as we do, MAYBE drive if it's less expensive for you that way, and eat your own packed meals and snacks at the parks then the cost would be less per person. Go to the Disney World website and search under specials to see what discounts they are offering. If there aren't any discounts I'd wait until there is if you can. In the meanwhile enter information to see what it would cost your family to go. I don't know what you consider a fortune but you'll find out by going to the website. I do hope you make it there if it's a dream of yours.

It depends on the options you want and your definition of a fortune. These can vary tremendously.



You can go onto the Disney World website and create an account (for free). From there, you can create vacation plans in order to see the different prices and options. I highly recommend you look through their website thoroughly, as there are many details and potential savings that you can find.



Last time I went, we stayed at the cheapest hotel, had a basic meal plan, and five days at the parks. Not including travel expenses and souvenirs, it cost less than $3000. This is actually pretty cheap for an awesome Disney vacation; it was worth it :)

It really depends on where you want to stay and the time of year you’re staying.



If you wanted to stay on property, they have deals that you can use. As an example, they currently have a deal where you can spend $1600 on a value resort (All-Star Music, Movies or Sports, or Pop Century Resort), tickets for one park per day (7-day ticket), Disney’s Magical Express Service, Extra Magic Hours and Disney Transport.



You can get a similar package for $2000, staying in a moderate resort (Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, or Port Orleans French Quarter or Riverside).



Keep in mind, these packages do not include dining plans or souvenirs. Alternatively, you could use the Disney Dining Plan, which is part of the Magic Your Way package, you just have to ask for it to be added on to the package. The Dining Plan is $38.99/nights of stay per person ($10.99/nights of stay for a child 3-9 years old). Keep in mind, though, only certain restaurants are applicable under the Disney Dining Plan.



So here’s the cheapest rate, as I can see it now. Presuming the children are...let’s say 8 and 10 years old, then you have:

Hotel, Ticket, Transportation within property: $1600

Disney Dining Plan:

I've been taking an informal poll over the years from people that have travelled to Disney and I've found that a good rule of thumb is that it costs roughly $1,000 per person for a week a Disney. Of course some will spend more and some will spend less. I'm from the Northeast so it will cost close to $300 per person to fly to Orlando, tickets to the park $200 per person, lodging $200 per person, food & expenses $200-300 per person, rental car? (I prefer one even if I am staying on property)



I've gone 3 times in the last 6 years and this rule of thumb is pretty close. I've stayed at the All-star, the Carribean, and off property and having 6 kids we are well-trained in being frugal.

The cost for a family of four at Disney World can vary dramatically depending on how much you want to do, what you're willing to sacrifice, and when you're going to go.



Let's say you're going to go for a week. 7 nights at a value resort during value season costs $574 (+ taxes + charge for 3rd & 4th person). A 7 day base ticket for all four of you (assuming everyone is at least 10 years old) will cost $1565. Don't forget to take into account food (minimum $10 per person per meal) and your flights down and back.



There's no way for anyone here to know how you personally define "a fortune". So let's go to the opposite end of the spectrum. Family of four, 7 nights at a deluxe resort during peak season, with all the amenities. Tickets for the four of you, including the water park & park hopping options are: $1938.30. The hotel room will cost anywhere from $2373 to $14,000+, depending on what kind of room you want.



Disney offers packages for "family of four for one week for less than $1600." Read the fine print before believing that, though. You may be able to get some discounts. I heartily recommend you check http://www.mousesavers.com frequently. They list discounts available to the general public, to AAA members, to teachers & police officers, and to Annual Passholders.



Another great resource is http://www.allears.net for both ticket prices and hotel rates (including dates of the seasons)



It should also be pointed out that if you're really looking to save money, you're probably going to want to forgo staying on Disney property and instead get a room at one of the nearby non-Disney hotels. Yes, you miss out on some of the theming and perks, and you'll probably have to rent a car. But it's definitely cheaper.

Disney now has hotels for every pocketbook...search their site for the different price ranges. Staying on the grounds gives you free transportation from park to park and not worry about parking fees, either; you also receive a better ticket price. Also be aware that the more days you stay, the less expensive the days are. The time of year that you go makes a big difference in price, too, so be SURE to check that. If you belong to AAA, check with them - they might have good packages. You can also bring some foods in, if you're not obvious about it. We always bring a backback with water, too- if you have a refrigerator where you stay, freeze bottled water and you'll have cold water all day....bottled water in the park in expensive.



When we took our kids, we always gave each of them a set amount of spending money and let them determine how they wanted to spend it.
