As mentioned previously both Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World are massive resorts with multiple theme parks. Universal has TWO parks and Disney is even larger as it has FOUR theme parks as well as water parks and other attractions. I recommend you research the six theme parks and pick the one that best suits your interests. Whether or not you have children is also a key factor.

I personally recommend Epcot as it has something for everyone including some great attractions and one of the best firework shows, the World Showcase is also something unique that you can only see at Epcot and no other park. However, if you have young children then Magic Kingdom would be the better pick as it has all the classic rides and characters.

Look at the websites and research the various parks, the Disney website has a good intro video of each park on the park homepages. Here are the links for both:

If you've never been and everything else is equal, Disney World is easily the better choice. My wife and I spent 8 days at WDW in 2007, have returned twice since then, and STILL don't feel like we've seen and experienced everything Disney has to offer. Disney simply has more volume of entertainment. That said, a lot depends on WHEN you're going and HOW LONG. If you're going in June, for example, Universal will be absolutely swamped due to the opening of their Harry Potter expansion. That might be a good time to visit Disney (they'll be busy too, but they can handle much larger crowds). If you're going for only 1 or 2 days on the other hand, you won't be able to scratch the surface of Walt Disney World. That might be a good time to visit Universal, which is doable in 2 days even when busy. Honestly, though, with the prices of Universal being so competitive, a lot of people just do both Disney AND Universal.

It depends. Like mentioned in other posts, you can't do ALL of it in one day, so you'll have to stick on one park. If you've never been to a Disney Park or Orlando, I think you need to go to Magic Kingdom because it's so iconic, and it's THE place people identify most when they think of Orlando. Yeah probably Universal has more rides and more adult-oriented action (and might be a bit cheaper, but not by much), but Magic Kingdom is still fun, and remember that part of the fun is also the memories you take home in pictures. If you go to Orlando, you gotta have your picture with Cinderella's Castle in the background. It's funny to realize that a lot of people actually go to the park mostly to take pictures of themselves. But the rides are fun too!.

One piece of advice: go extremely early. Be there before the park opens. You'll be one of the first people in line and enjoy the park to yourself somewhat, for a couple of hours until it fills up. Stay all the way to the end.

well neither place is just ONE theme park.

universal orlando is made up of 2 theme parks (universal studios and universal islands of adventure) and partnered with 1 water park (wet n wild). plus there is city walk which is a place with shops, restaurants, clubs, and a movie theater. they also have onsite hotels.

and disney world is made of 4 theme parks (magic kingdom, epcot, hollywood studios, animal kingdom) and 2 water parks (blizzard beach, typhoon lagoon). plus there is downtown disney which is a place to walk around with shops, restaurants and other entertainment including a movie theater, cirque du soleil show, and disney quest which is a huge indoor arcade. disney also has a sports complex, golf course, 24 hotels,, and other activities throughout the property.

there is no way to get either place done in ONE day.

out of the parks in universal orlando i would recommend universal studios.

out of the parks in disney world i would recommend magic kingdom.

now picking from those 2 parks i would definitely choose magic kingdom over universal studios any day. so i would recommend you go to magic kingdom with your one day in orlando.

no no no.. I would totally totally totally go to Universal. Please do not listen to anyone else. Universal Studios is 30x better... Universal is better if you are looking for more rides, more of a theme park scenario with all of the movie characters also. Disney was ok... only if you have kids with you though. if you are going alone or with other adults do not even think of disney. There is only about 4 good rides that arent children oriented. Universal is cheaper I think. If you are going to buy fastpasses though Universal can get a bit pricey. Disney I think is too big. You spend all your time walking around. Universal is big but everything is right there. Most of disney is shops that all sell the same souveneir type stuff. Unviersal has few shops and many rides. I would totally go for Universal. Please do I think you would enjoy it much much more.

Well.. In my opinion you could probably do Universal Studios in one day maybe.

Disney World would take a few days.
