YES!!! I grew up in sarasota bradenton. there are many areas that are not so nice to hang around, especially at night. the street known as "Old 301" which is a main rode that paralells US41 is where a lot of hookers hang out and a lot of drugs activity goes on.

In the area between Sarasota and Bradenton, most of the streets off of US41 (tamiami trail) near the airport are fairly bad too. Some of the other answers to this question are right- Bradenton does not have a real "ghetto" compared to larger US cities. So the crime rate is not really as high.

However, the areas I listed, along with the entire roads and off streets in north sarasota of "Dr. Martin Luther King Drive", Old Bradenton Road, and Orange Ave" see a ton of drug activity and there tend to be swarms of people loitering along the streets as you drive through so it can be intimidating.

I consider Bradenton a nice place. I've lived here for 1 year already and its beautiful. Layback and everything. Its a really high income town and luxury place. If you move to Bradenton, i consider you to move to West and Northwest. A house there would cost you anywhere between 400,000-3,000,000 but i can guarantee you that u'll live like a queen. East side (including oneco in south bradenton and that area in Bayshore is really ghetto. Its more ghetto then the bad parts of NYC. When people consider Bradenton trashy, that is what they are talking about. 60-80 percent of town is beautiful

im from tampa, originally cleveland and let me tell you, in all of florida there is not one real ghetto. cleveland, detroit, ny, those places have ghettos. down here not so much. of course you have your areas that are middle class, or lower class but by my definition, i wouldnt call them a ghetto, especially bradenton, thats kind of an upscale area for the most part.

Yep. It's basically south of downtown. 9th and 14th st.

Just recently there was a kidnapping from a Circle K around that area.

You always see lots of homeless people.

The actual area by the river is nice though.

All I know is I wouldn't feel safe walking around in the area between 9th st and 14th st by myself

There's a bunch of gross motels and run down buildings all around there

I agree, if you're looking for a place to live, you want to look west of 41, preferably west of downtown. Otherwise you need to head east of the Manatee River.

You don't want to live around 14th street west, or in the Oneco, Samoset area.
